How Wide-Angle LED Rigid Bars Improve Light Box Backlighting

A light box can use bright LEDs and still show visible hot spots, dark bands or uneven edges. The result depends not only on total wattage, but also on how each LED distributes light, how the bars are spaced and how far the light source sits from the diffuser panel.
Wide-angle LED rigid bars are designed to spread light across a broader area than a narrow-beam point source. For signage makers, display manufacturers and light box assemblers, that wider distribution can make it easier to create a more uniform illuminated surface while keeping the internal layout practical.
Why beam angle matters inside a light box
Every LED and lens creates a light pattern. If the beam is too narrow for the available cabinet depth, concentrated bright areas may appear directly above the LEDs. Increasing the distance between the LEDs and the front panel can reduce those hot spots, but many modern cabinets do not have enough depth for that approach.
A wide optical lens spreads light laterally before it reaches the diffuser. This increases the overlap between adjacent light patterns. Better overlap can reduce sharp transitions between bright and dark areas, especially in shallow light boxes and slim display cabinets.
MIJI Rigid Bar-2R-145 uses a 170-degree PMMA optical lens. Each 920 mm aluminum PCB carries 12 SMD 2835 three-chip LEDs and operates from a regulated DC 12V constant-voltage supply. The rated power is 12W per bar, with a luminous flux of 1100-1200 lm per bar.
These values describe the bar. Final light box performance still depends on the cabinet depth, diffuser transmission, reflective surfaces, bar spacing and the number of bars used.
Rigid construction helps maintain a consistent layout
Flexible Led Strips are useful for curved or irregular surfaces, but a rigid bar can be easier to position in straight rows. The aluminum PCB helps the installer maintain alignment, while the mounting holes provide defined fastening points.
Consistent alignment matters because spacing errors can become visible through the diffuser. If one bar is tilted or one row sits closer to another, the illuminated panel may show an uneven band even when all bars have the same electrical output.
For the Rigid Bar-2R-145, the confirmed PCB dimensions are 920 x 14.5 x 1 mm. The 1 mm value is the aluminum PCB thickness and does not include the optical lens height. Mounting-hole spacing and full assembled height should be confirmed before finalizing a cabinet drawing.

Single-LED cut points support project adjustment
Not every sign face matches a standard bar length. A cuttable design allows the installer to adapt the lighting row to the available space without leaving an unnecessarily large dark area at the end.
Rigid Bar-2R-145 can be cut after each LED section at the printed cut line. Each cuttable section uses a dual-resistor circuit. Cutting must be done only with power disconnected, and the positive and negative solder pads must be connected with the correct polarity.
Before production, check the cut positions against the actual cabinet drawing. Do not assume that every visible mark is a cut point, and do not connect the bar directly to AC mains.
CCT should match the sign face and visual objective
The same illuminated graphic can look different under different color temperatures. Warmer white may suit hospitality or decorative displays, while cooler white may be selected for crisp graphics or high-contrast signage.
The available CCT options for this rigid bar are 3000K, 4000K, 6000K and 10000K. The appropriate option should be confirmed with the printed face material and diffuser because ink color, panel transmission and viewing environment all affect the final appearance.

What to test before approving a layout
Do not approve a light box layout from electrical ratings alone. A practical sample test should use the intended cabinet depth, diffuser, reflective backing and graphic material.
Check the following points:
- Are there visible bright spots directly above the lenses?
- Are the edges and corners darker than the center?
- Is the distance between bars consistent across the cabinet?
- Does the diffuser create the expected brightness and color appearance?
- Is the Power Supply correctly sized for the total connected load?
- Can the bars be mounted and serviced without damaging the PCB or wiring?
If the sample is uneven, adjust bar spacing, edge distance or cabinet depth before increasing wattage. More power does not automatically solve a distribution problem.
A useful starting point for signage projects
